Spring semester: Master course on materials characterization, University of Bern
On Materials Characterization (with a focus on synchrotron and spectroscopy techniques), at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry of the University of Bern.
- Introduction to Materials: From batteries and fuel cells to paintings and archaeological artefacts.
- Analyzing heterogeneous materials: Notions of measurement scale vs property scale; techniques for sample preparation, from bulk to thin-sections; Chemical and structural imaging.
- Synchrotron techniques: Introduction to X-ray absorption spectroscopy and X-ray tomography techniques; Estimation and mitigation of radiation damages.
- Case-studies chosen among various materials: paintings, batteries, cementious materials, biomaterials, etc.
